What, Who and Why

About Serenity Cafe

The Serenity Cafe started as a small idea and grew into a sensation. The idea: somewhere to celebrate recovery, find a warm welcome and have a brilliant time and be guaranteed of an alcohol and drug free venue.

Why?

  • People in recovery have a right to choice - and adult social venues rarely offer an alcohol and drug free choice
  • Together people in recovery are a strong community - having a focal point to meet others strengthens us all
  • Recovery should be enjoyed, not endured
  • Recovery is something we can be proud of
Recovery Capital is the name of the game - recovery capital is our inner and external resources that we use to help us sustain long term recovery. By helping each other, we are developing our recovery capital and our recovery gets stronger.

Who?

A Steering Group is currently running the Serenity Cafe, involving people in recovery in deciding how to run the cafe-club nights and how to develop the Serenity Cafe further to achieve permanent premises.

The Steering Group works under the guidance and support of Comas, which is a small community development agency, a registered charity and company limited by guarantee.  You can find more information at www.comas.org.uk .
